So where has Festivus been?
Festivus 2005 was the last one...if you were there, you were lucky. It was the biggest turnout ever, and a great way to send it off. It was the first time we had a full 64-person pool for the "Feats of Strength" foosball tournament.
Since then, I have moved out of my townhouse, and the house I am now in does not have nearly as much parking (that's this year's reason). For those of you who don't know, the real excuse for not having Festivus last year (besides the parking issue) was that I got married to my wonderful wife Jess in September of 2006, and we were just plain old tired of planning stuff! It was too much to think about planning Festivus, since I typcially have started planning that in early October. Not exactly what we wanted to do when we just got done with 6 months of planning a wedding.
So the good news is we are going to do a "Festivus in July" next summer to make up for it. We'll be able to have some outdoor activity as well, so stay tuned for that.
We now live in a house in Braddock Heights, between Frederick and Middletown, MD, on a 4-acre wooded lot with a ton of trees (and leaves!). We have a dog (dachshund) named Ginger who gets a lot of attention. :-) No kids on the horizon yet, at least we're not trying until Jess gets done with Massage therapy school (as my sister Jessica said, "Wow, you really hit the jackpot..."). To which I say, "Yes, I did!" Jess gets done with massage school at Potomac Massage Training Institute (PMTI) in D.C. in July of 2008, at which point we are planning another trip to New Zealand. (We went there on a delayed honeymoon in February 2007).
Since then, we have taken trips to San Diego, California; New York, NY; Richmond, VA(for the Muddy Buddy!); and Deep Creek, MD (for camping). I've traveled for business to Chicago, Orlando, and San Diego.
My business, Immersion Active, is going well. We are at a staff size of 14 now and looking for number 15 and 16. (Plug: if anyone knows of a good Flash Developer or Online Media Planner, send them my way!) We're hoping to expand our space in the coming year, wherein we will hopefully hit our 10th anniversary in August!
I hope everyone is well...I know some of you may have wondered what happened to me (or much more importantly, Festivus! :-) So I hope this brings you up to speed and lets you look forward to sharing Festivus in July with me and Jess this summer!
The original Seinfeld episode with Festivus, "The Strike," airs at 11:00 PM on TBS on Saturday, December 22. In the meantime, December 23 is the actual date for Festivus, so on that day, raise your glass in a toast to a Happy 'Festivus for the rest of us!'
